Intro: The Indianapolis Colts on Friday announced the signing of outside linebacker Jabaal Sheard. Check out what this veteran pass rusher brings to the table.

INDIANAPOLIS — Jabaal Sheard can do it all from the outside linebacker position: he’s effective in stopping the run, he can drop back and provide solid coverage and, of course, he’s a relentless pass rusher.

And now he’s being counted on to help lead the way for the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive makeover for the 2017 season.

The Colts on Friday announced the signing of the 27-year-old Sheard to a reported three-year deal, and he instantly provides not just talent, but leadership at such a critical spot in Ted Monachino’s 3-4 defense.

“Jabaal brings a wealth of experience and veteran leadership to our locker room,” Colts first-year general manager Chris Ballard said in the press release announcing his signing. “His size and speed are the conduit to his pass rushing ability as he creates matchup difficulties for opponents. Jabaal is equally talented against the run and in pass coverage. His addition provides a good player for our defense and we’re excited to have him as a member of the Colts.”

At 6 foot 3, 265 pounds, Sheard is big enough to handle the rigors of battling in the trenches, but still can move out in open space when needed.

A second-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2011, Sheard has 36 career sacks, 18 passes defensed and 11 forced fumbles, but he has seen somewhat of a revitalization after signing with the New England Patriots in 2015, collecting eight sacks and four forced fumbles his first season in New England, and notching five sacks and four passes defensed last season for the Super Bowl champs.

Oh, and at the age of 11, he was awarded a bravery medal after he helped an elderly woman escape from her burning home in Florida.

And while we don’t quite have that footage, we do have some of Sheard’s best plays over the past few years for you to enjoy while you get ready for offseason workouts, which begin next month:
