THE INDIANA FOOTBALL DIGEST’S 2013 INSIDER VOLUME VII

BY PAUL CONDRY AND MATT KOPSEA

TOP HEADLINES

It was a rough week for the LaPorte High football community with the passing of junior Jake West this past Wednesday. The 6-foot, 180-pound West died of a heart condition as a result of cardiac arrest after collapsing while running laps during practice. Several tributes, including the wearing of No. 26 stickers on the helmets of the LaPorte and Merrillville football teams, and moments of silence around the area during Friday's contests.

Central Noble ended its 30-game and 27-game regular season losing streak with a 48-12 win over Howe School. It was also the first win for Cougars' coach Jeremy Yates.

Jasper coach Tony Ahrens earned career win No. 100 with the Wildcats' 51-13 win over Princeton.

Crawford County saw its 24-game Patoka Lake Conference losing streak come to an end with a 28-16 win over Springs Valley. It also snapped the Wolfpack's 15-game and 13-game regular season losing skid.

Norwell had its 16-game regular season losing streak halted with a 35-7 win over East Noble.

Bloomington South ended its 18-game Conference Indiana losing streak with a 28-21 triumph over Terre Haute South.

North Knox set a school-record for points in a game with its 82-14 triumph over Union (Dugger).

Gibson Southern's 50-26 win at Heritage Hills was the Titans' first road win in the series since 1975.

Northridge's 38-14 win over NorthWood marked the Raiders' first win in the series since 1988, snapping a 29-game losing streak.

Penn increased its scoreless streak to 21 quarters with a 58-0 blanking of S.B. Washington. The Kingsmen have scored 262 unanswered points during this stretch.
