Harnish would get another crack under center but facing a fourth-and-two just past midfield, the Colts decided to punt and pin the Saints inside their own 10-yard line.
It looked like the Colts would get the ball back in fairly reasonable field position but Lenz dropped a punt and the Saints recovered it at the Colts 32-yard line.
The Saints took full advantage of the break with kicker Derek Dimke connecting on a 45-yard field goal to make the lead 23-17 with 1:55 remaining.
Harnish and the Colts offense then took their turn at a game-winning drive. However, the drive stalled after the unit just crossed midfield.
The Colts fell to 0-3 in the preseason with the 23-17 loss.
Third Quarter Recap
The Colts starters came out for one final offensive drive after halftime. The series ended in a punt and Luck finished 10-of-18 for 103 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Just like on offense, the Colts defensive starters played one series in the third quarter. The starting unit stopped the Saints on a turnover on downs in its last work of the evening.

The Colts could not take advantage of the promising field position as Hasselbeck’s deep ball intended for Josh Lenz was picked off in the endzone by Saints cornerback Brian Dixon.
At the end of the third quarter, the Saints led the Colts 20-10.
Second Quarter Recap

Andrew Luck and the Colts offense continued to be searching for some rhythm as the unit was forced to punt after a three-and-out.
With Luke McCown at quarterback for the Saints, the Colts defense once again had trouble with quarterback containment. McCown ran for 28 yards on a third-and-10. The drive ended with kicker Graham kicking a 24-yard field goal. The Saints now led 20-7 with 3:00 to go in the second quarter.
Luck and the offense went up-tempo a bit to end the first half. A 13-play drive stalled near in a goal-to-go situation.
At the end of the second quarter, the Saints led the Colts 20-10.
First Quarter Recap
The Saints won the toss and elected to receive.
With Drew Brees making his preseason debut, the Saints marched 80 yards in 13 plays with the Pro Bowl quarterback finding fullback Austin Johnson for a three-yard touchdown reception. The Saints offense converted a pair of third-and-longs on the drive.
The Colts defense finally got the Saints off the field on third-down. New Orleans converted their first three third-down attempts before the Colts pass defense made a pair of nice plays to give the offense the ball back at their own 41-yard line.
Taking advantage of nice field position, the Colts offense moved quickly. Andrew Luck found a wide-open
Brees and the Saints would answer. Marques Colston did a wonderful job of getting his feet down in the back of the end zone to gather in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Brees.
The quarter ended with Luck getting picked off by Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro.
Brees’ night finished after three drives.
At the end of the first quarter, the Saints led the Colts 14-7.

-This is the Saints first ever game at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Saints did practice at Lucas Oil Stadium for four days back during Week One of the 2008 season due to Tropical Storm Gustav.
-With showers in the area, the roof is closed tonight at Lucas Oil Stadium. Temperatures are in the 70s for kickoff.
