Report: Former Colts Wide Receiver Donte Moncrief Signing With Jaguars

Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Donte Moncrief, an unrestricted free agent-to-be, “intends to sign” with the Jacksonville Jaguars, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

INDIANAPOLIS — Donte Moncrief will apparently remain in the AFC South Division.

The former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver, who is set to hit free agency for the first time in his career, “intends to sign” with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Moncrief, who will turn 25 years old in August, was a third-round pick by the Colts in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. In his four seasons in Indy, he compiled 152 receptions for 1,876 yards with 18 touchdowns.

After playing in all 16 games his first two years in the league, however, Moncrief would suffer a bit from the injury bug in 2016 and 2017, playing in a combined 19 games over that span. This last season, he had a career-low 26 receptions and two touchdowns to go along with 391 yards in 12 games played with eight starts.

Moncrief, who also had reported interest from the Baltimore Ravens, is one of multiple key players to have agreed to sign with the Jaguars during this pre-free agency “negotiating period,” in which players’ agents can legally discuss terms with all 32 teams prior to the official start of free agency, which begins at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Jacksonville will also reportedly sign guard Andrew Norwell — regarded as the top free agent offensive lineman — and is also re-signing wide receiver Marqise Lee, according to reports.

Allen Robinson, the Jaguars’ No. 1 receiver who missed all but two plays last season with a knee injury, is reportedly going to sign with the Chicago Bears, meanwhile.

The Colts, meanwhile, could also be one of many teams looking to bolster their wide receiver corps this offseason, either through the draft or free agency. While T.Y. Hilton remains at the top of the depth chart in Indy, the team has just one major contributor, Chester Rogers, set to return for sure in 2018, as both Moncrief and Kamar Aiken were set to become free agents, while Quan Bray was waived from Injured Reserve on Dec. 26.

The team also has signed six young wide receivers — Dres Anderson, Seantavius Jones, Justice Liggins, Kolby Listenbee, DeAndre Smelter and James Wright — to Reserve/Future deals to give them a shot on the offseason roster.
