Meet Pat McAfee's Replacement: New Colts Punter Jeff Locke

Posted Mar 10, 2017

Intro: It was a very quiet start to free agency for the Indianapolis Colts, but they did find their new punter. The Colts signed punter Jeff Locke on Friday afternoon.

INDIANAPOLIS – The biggest news the Colts made at the start of free agency was finding the replacement for Pat McAfee.

Jeff Locke comes to Indianapolis after four years as the punter in Minnesota.

Locke, a left-footed punter, did not kickoff for the Vikings, but that was part of his collegiate duties during his days at UCLA.

The Vikings chose Locke in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Locke is the Vikings’ career record holder for net punting average (38.8).

Last season, Locke ranked as the NFL’s 29th punter in gross average (42.6) and 25th in net punting average (39.0). Locke’s 34 punts inside the 20-yard line last year did set a team record.

Like McAfee, Locke was the holder in Minnesota.

The kickoff part of Locke’s duties would be the only additional thing he will be expected to take on with the Colts.

Locke, 27, was born in Germany with his father stationed overseas in the Air Force.
