MAN(NING) OF THE MOMENT

Over 13 memorable seasons under center for the Colts, Peyton Manning had many wonderful moments. In the first installment of looking at his accomplishments, Colts.com identifies key moments and achievements in Manning’s career.

INDIANAPOLIS – For the Colts, Peyton Manning was one of the most celebrated and gifted players in club history.  He directed offenses that were prolific throughout his career.

 

Manning’s playing career with the club ended on Wednesday.  Here is part one of a two-part look at his accomplishments:

MANNING NOTABLE MOMENTS

April 18, 1998 – Selected as first overall pick in NFL Draft.

August 8, 1998 – First NFL pass was 48-yard TD strike to Marvin Harrison at Seattle

         (preseason).

September 6, 1998 – Made debut vs. Miami in 24-15 loss.

October 4, 1998 – Won first regular-season game against San Diego, 17-12.

January 16, 2000 – First playoff game with club was 19-16 loss to Tennessee.

November 11, 2001 – Missed one play with injury vs. Miami, the only one missed until 2011.

September 28, 2003 – Had club-record six touchdown passes in 55-21 win at New Orleans.

October 6, 2003 – Led 38-35 OT win at Tampa Bay as team erased 35-14 deficit in last four

        minutes, an NFL first.

January 2, 2004 – Won first NFL Most Valuable Player honor (shared with Steve McNair).

September 26, 2004 – Had five TD passes as club threw on game’s first 22 plays in 45-31 win

        over Green Bay and QB-Brett Favre. 

October 31, 2004 – Set club record with 472 passing yards at Kansas City.

December 26, 2004 – Set NFL seasonal record with 49th TD pass (to Brandon Stokley) vs. San     Diego, a mark held by QB-Dan Marino. 

January 10, 2005 – Won second NFL MVP award.

October 17, 2005 – Hit 86th TD pass to Marvin Harrison to set NFL duo mark for QB-WR.

September 10, 2006 – Faced Eli Manning, at NY Giants in first game pitting brothers as QBs.  

January 21, 2007 – Helped Colts to 38-34 win over New England in AFC Championship game

to earn berth in Super Bowl XLI.  Team trailed 21-3 in posting best-ever title game comeback.

February 4, 2007 – Named MVP as Colts defeated Chicago, 29-17, in Super Bowl XLI for

        franchise’s first World Championship since 1970.

January 2, 2009 – Won third MVP award, joining QB-Brett Favre as only three-time recipients.

December 6, 2009 – 27-17 win over Tennessee extended NFL record with 7th straight 12 -win

        season.

December 13, 2009 – 28-16 win over Denver set NFL record with 22 straight regular season

         victories; was club’s 114th decade win, setting another NFL record.

December 17, 2009 – Colts set NFL mark for consecutive wins (23) and decade wins (115) in

         NFL record seventh fourth-quarter comeback of season, 35-31 at Jacksonville.

January 9, 2010 – Became NFL’s only four-time MVP winner.

February 7, 2010 – Club fell in Super Bowl XLIV, 31-17 to New Orleans.
