Jack Doyle An Obvious Choice For Pro Football Focus’ ‘Team Of The Week’

Posted Nov 1, 2017

Intro: Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle earned a solid grade of 90.6 from Pro Football Focus for his career-best outing last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, making PFF’s “Team of the Week.”

INDIANAPOLIS — Jack Doyle’s performance last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals wasn’t just the best of his career — it was one of the best overall showings by a tight end in the NFL all season.

That’s according to Pro Football Focus, which named Doyle to its Week 8 “Team Of The Week.”

Here’s what PFF’s Sam Monson wrote about Doyle’s selection (read the entire piece by clicking here):

Tight end – Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts

PFF Grade:
90.6

Elite Stat: Jack Doyle gained 3.27 yards per route run this week.

Jack Doyle had a career game this week against the Bengals, seeing 13 passes thrown his way, catching a dozen of them for 121 yards and a touchdown. Doyle caught a pass against seven different Bengals defenders, beating five different players for gains of 10 or more yards. Doyle also had 25 snaps of run blocking and acquitted himself well in the run game too, putting together one of the best overall performances of the season at the position.

————————

Doyle’s 12 receptions and 121 receiving yards were single-game career-bests, and he currently ranks sixth in the AFC, and tied for 11th in the NFL, with 42 receptions on the year, while he ranks sixth in the NFL — and first among tight ends — among active players with a 78.6 catch percentage.

After a rough little stretch in the weeks leading up to the Bengals game — suffering a concussion, missing a game and then having a couple drops and fumbles along the way — Doyle has rebounded back into form nicely, general manager Chris Ballard said earlier this week.

"Good players that have good mental toughness — all players are going to have moments in the season where they have a little lull and things don’t go their way. They have to be able to battle and bounce back from that," Ballard said. "You’ve got to be able to have the mental toughness to continue to work and grind and do the right things day to day, and it comes back around. If you’re a good player, it comes back around. It came back for Jack. I told him after the game — very proud of Jack, him bouncing back."

Doyle becomes the third Colts player to make a PFF “Team of the Week” this season, as cornerback Rashaan Melvin and punter Rigoberto Sanchez each made the cut Week 2, and both earned inclusions on PFF’s “First Quarter All-Pro Team.”
