Colts Sign Veteran Tight End Brandon Williams

Posted Mar 20, 2017

Intro: On Monday afternoon, the Colts signed veteran Brandon Williams to join the tight end room of Jack Doyle and Erik Swoope. Where will Williams fit in with the Colts?

INDIANAPOLIS – The trade of Dwayne Allen opened up reps at the tight end position in 2017.

New tight end Brandon Williams (6-3, 247 pounds) will be in line to take some of those snaps.

The Colts signed Williams on Monday afternoon.

Williams, 29, has played in 45 career games with stops in Carolina, Miami and Seattle.

With the Seahawks last season, Williams played 148 offensive snaps as the team's third-string tight end.

Going into 2017, the Colts now have Williams going into a tight end room headlined by Jack Doyle and Erik Swoope.

The Colts incorporated three tight ends into weekly game plans a good amount last season.

If the Colts do involve Williams in the passing game next year, he will be looking to add to the six career catches in four NFL seasons.

The signing of Williams does not necessarily shut the door on the tight end position this offseason. The 2017 draft class is known for its depth at tight end.
