Colts Release Starting Cornerback Patrick Robinson

Posted Mar 10, 2017

Intro: The Colts will be looking to replace two secondary starters in 2017 with Mike Adams not returning and the release of Patrick Robinson coming on Friday afternoon.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Colts are now in search of two new starting defensive backs this offseason.

On Friday afternoon, the Colts released veteran cornerback Patrick Robinson, after just one season in Indianapolis.

A variety of injury ailments (concussion, knee, groin) in 2016 forced Robinson to miss nine games in his lone year with the Colts.

Robinson signed a three-year contract with the Colts last March, with the thinking he would solidify the ever-changing No. 2 cornerback spot in Indy.

Cornerback was viewed as an off-season need for the Colts even before this move was made. Parting ways with Robinson only confirms the importance of finding a cornerback in the coming weeks/months.

The 2017 draft class is believed to be one with ample cornerback depth.

Besides Davis, the rest of the Colts cornerbacks under contract for 2017 are: Charles James, Rashaan Melvin, Chris Milton, Darryl Morris, Larry Scott and Frankie Williams.

Robinson has been in the NFL since 2009 and was originally a first-round pick out of Florida State.

Per Over The Cap, the move to release Robinson save the Colts around $2.5 million.
