Andrew Luck Will Not Play Sunday Against Browns

Intro: Colts head coach Chuck Pagano on Monday said quarterback Andrew Luck (right shoulder) will not play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns; his practice status for the week remains unknown.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano on Monday announced that quarterback Andrew Luck will not play on Sunday, when the team takes on the Cleveland Browns in their Week 3 matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Luck, who continues to work his way back from offseason surgery to his right shoulder, is yet to be active for a game this season.

“I don’t know about practice right now,” he said. “I guess when the doctors clear him to practice, he puts the red jersey on and you guys (the media) see him out there, I see him at the same time, then we’ll know he’s ready to go and start practicing.”

Expected to get his second straight start in Luck’s place on Sunday is Jacoby Brissett. The second-year North Carolina State product, who was acquired in a trade with the New England Patriots on Sept. 2, completed 20-of-37 passes for 216 yards with an interception yesterday in the Colts’ 16-13 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Pagano thinks that the more Brissett gets comfortable with the Colts’ playbook, the better off he — and the offense in general — will be.

“We’ll just keep adding and giving him what we can give him,” Pagano said. “He’s a smart guy. You know, he picks up things fast. It’ll be good for everybody to be able to expand, especially in the situational stuff — once we get in the red area, third down.”

Other injuries
• Pagano said Monday that center Ryan Kelly (foot) and cornerback Vontae Davis (groin) are “still week-to-week,” but are “doing better.” Kelly suffered his injury during an Aug. 10 training camp practice and required surgery; Davis was injured during the Colts’ third preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 26.

• Wide receiver Chester Rogers “had a little setback” in his recovery from a nagging hamstring injury. “He’s getting a scan as we speak, so we’ll know more on him by Wednesday,” Pagano said. Rogers is yet to play in a game this season.

• There’s a “good chance” inside linebacker Antonio Morrison (elbow), who missed the Cardinals game, will be back this week.

• As for inside linebacker Anthony Walker and safety Darius Butler, each of whom are battling hamstring injuries and missed yesterday’s game, “We’ll know more as the week progresses,” Pagano confirmed.
