Adam Vinatieri, Frank Gore Make The Pro Football Hall Of Fame — Sort Of

INDIANAPOLIS — Adam Vinatieri and Frank Gore are sure-fire Hall of Famers, already considered among the all-time greats at their respective positions.

But on Thursday, this Indianapolis Colts duo found themselves already featured in Canton, Ohio.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame, which oftentimes displays the equipment of current players who have broken various records, on Thursday tweeted a photo of a Colts-centric display consisting of:

• Vinatieri’s game-worn jersey from the Colts’ Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers, in which the veteran kicker connected on a 51-yard game winner in overtime to give Indianapolis a 26-23 win at Lucas Oil Stadium. The kick was Vinatieri’s 10th-career game-winner in overtime, an NFL record.

• Gore’s game-used gloves from that same Game 5 matchup against the 49ers, in which the running back passed Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson for seventh place on the NFL’s all-time rushing list. Dickerson finished his career with 13,259 yards; Gore currently has 13,520 yards, just 142 yards shy of sixth-place Jerome Bettis and 164 yards shy of fifth-place LaDainian Tomlinson.

Vinatieri could continue to move up some all-time charts on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lucas Oil Stadium. He needs one field goal from 30-39 yards to tie John Carney (165) for the fourth-most field goals made from that distance in NFL history, and needs to convert one field goal from 50-plus yards to tie Jason Elam and Phil Dawson (39) for the sixth-most made field goals from that distance in league history.
