Robert Griffin III just completed a significant three-year Baylor career by winning many of the game’s top honors. Griffin won numerous national awards, led his school to its first bowl win in 19 years and set or tied 54 Baylor records in 41 career games. Center Jeff Saturday just concluded his 13th season with the Colts. Saturday has played in 197 career games and while Head Coach Chuck Pagano believes there is still action left in the veteran center, he said the Pro Bowl lineman still is deciding whether to continue playing.
Ryan Grigson and Chuck Pagano have been paired as a general manager-head coach tandem since January 25. For the past month, they have been assembling the coaching staff and evaluating personnel as the non-playing season moves toward the Combine, free agency and the draft. At this week’s Combine, Grigson and Pagano say all roster evaluations are on-going.*
General Manager Ryan Grigson and Head Coach Chuck Pagano made a return visit to the NFL Combine on Thursday, but they made it for the first time together as decision-makers for the Colts. The pair will oversee the club’s evaluation of the collegiate talent on hand but speaking on the first day of the workouts, the chief topic remained the status of Peyton Manning.
Jim Harbaugh was the Colts’ quarterback from 1994-97. He was replaced by Peyton Manning in 1998, when Harbaugh moved on to Baltimore, then to San Diego. Now the head coach of San Francisco, Harbaugh is back in Indianapolis at his second Combine as the field leader of the 49ers. He spoke for a few moments today about Manning, Stanford’s Andrew Luck and Baylor’s Robert Griffin III.
Indianapolis just concluded being the focus of the football world two and a half weeks ago when Super Bowl XLVI was played in Lucas Oil Stadium. The city was projected onto an international stage in becoming the 14th site ever to host a Super Bowl. The city returns to the football center stage again this week with the return of the NFL Combine, an event that has been held here since the late 1980s.
